The Giving of the Thanks...make your list folks

Today is Thanksgiving. People all over are putting turkeys or hams in the oven, planning dinners and celebrations with friends and family. My wee family did that yesterday (it was a chicken but I digress..) I've learned really recently after an Instagram project #100happydays that gratitude is the base of most things that make a person happy.
Grateful people = Happy people. Period. To be grateful is humbling. To sincerely appreciate what you have, who you have, how you can affect a persons life is truly a magical thing. To understand the impact people have left on you or with you whether they are still in your life or not takes some effort sometimes. The last thanksgiving I had with my mom was 20 years ago... I still remember how sad and unwell she was. But I also remember it was the last time she told me "...I love you too." I am grateful I can remember that. The year after we went camping. Mom was gone and we were determined to make new memories. We roasted a tiny turkey and all the fixins and shared it with our friends. I am grateful I can remember that feeling of sharing. That was my favorite until I prepped a turkey with the littles in my family, had long overdue family portraits taken and then a fire and sang songs for my Dad. That became my favorite. I'm grateful I can remember the feelings of acceptance, and how I had finally felt a sense of family after such a long time. Today I will be making a list. On that list the things I am grateful for, the experiences I am grateful for having and the lessons from the ones I'm NOT so grateful for. What I know is this, the best things in life arent things. The best things are the people you get to share that life with. Whos on your list?...you should tell them. Because you never know when it's going to be the last time.
