Tonight is a night of change!! When littles change into ghost and goblin costumes and pretend to be something magical and creative even if its only for just a little while! When they can run wild in the streets and collect candy in exchange for not playing tricks on their neighbours. When their sweet little faces are painted and their button noses freeze from the fall chill in the air. When adults change gears and start to think of the next redic money grabbing holiday….I will not say it here...not before Dec 1!! I just cant especially before Nov 11th..
Halloween or All hallows eve is an ancient day that has always been special to me, but I think for different reasons than most.. As October turns into November thousands of Wiccans, Druids and other Pagans across the world observe the sacred time of Samhaim (Saa-ween, Sah-ween). Samhaim is the festival of the dead meaning the death of summer , Summers End literally. It is the celebration of the end of the harvest and the start of the coldest half or the year. A time when the earth can let out a collective sigh from providing the abundance it has given us for another year. Her gifts of beautiful spring rains, lilacs and amazing plants and fruits, beautiful sunny days and shining lake trout , towering spring meadows of flowers and other incredible sights and experiences. The incredible apple I had today reminded me of how much effort and energy must go into something so freaking amazing. I mean c.mon People..... it was a f@cking amazing apple!!
Lately I haven't been putting much effort into many things with one or two exceptions...healing a broken heart and finding a new home. Both have come with significant, sometimes unwanted change. Change you cant control like the seasons. Luckily The B Side has been super blessed and found some awesome new digs! Twice the space, more light and privacy to work uninterrupted, and it comes with another project.....a great little built in 1952 house. That needs a break, some polish, a gentle hand and a bit of love.
On today the Day of the Dead and Samhaim I get to celebrate change. I get to exhale a huge sigh for all the efforts of change through my spring and summer. Just like mother nature, I will get to retreat into myself again for a rest, do the inside work and maybe in the spring again I can shine along with my wee house and my projects from The B Side.
So mote it be.
